Arcoiris Summer Camp utilizes the LVCC network to create a safe, engaging, faith-based, joyful summer experience for K-8th children. With a focus on character development, community engagement, and leadership, the camp trains youth leaders (ages 14-24) to create a dynamic environment. Activities may include arts, Bible Study, STEM challenges, cultural exploration, and service-learning.

About La Villita Community Church (LVCC)

Founded in 1994, LVCC is a non-denominational Christian church dedicated to youth development in Little Village and North Lawndale. Serving as a community hub, LVCC offers diverse programs to foster leadership, bridge communities, and provide safe spaces for youth through sports, mentorship, and community events.

Position Overview

The Arcoiris Summer Camp Director oversees all aspects of LVCC’s Arcoiris Summer Camp. The director will oversee implementation of a Bible-based curriculum, lead youth development initiatives, hire and manage a team of Camp Leaders, and ensure a dynamic and inclusive camp experience. This hybrid role involves part-time planning (5-10 hours per week) from February to June and transitions to full-time (40 hours per week) during the 5-6 week camp.

Responsibilities

The Arcoiris Camp Director will complete or oversee the completion of the following:

  1. Program Implementation:
    • Develop and execute a summer camp program for children K-8th.
    • Implement feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement.
  2. Youth Leadership Development:
    • Recruit, train, and mentor 6-12 youth Camp Leaders (ages 14-24).
    • Facilitate a one-week leadership training prior to camp and provide ongoing professional development during camp.
  3. Community Engagement:
    • Conduct outreach in Little Village and North Lawndale to recruit 30-60 campers.
    • Foster community relationships and organize events like block parties and field trips.
  4. Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, registration and consent forms, registration fees, and parent communications.
    • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and organizational deliverables, such as budgets, timesheets, payments requests, and schedules.
  5. Fundraising and Reporting:
    • Plan fundraising initiatives to support camp operations.
    • Prepare reports for funders and the LVCC Board.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
  • Able to climb stairs and carry program materials on a regular basis. 
  • At least three years of experience working with school-age children.
  • Strong community ties to a ministry or church in Little Village and North Lawndale.
  • Proficient knowledge of the Bible.
  • Passion for youth engagement and leadership development.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
